An ultrasonic scaling instrument sprays water and vibrates to disinfect the gums. After the plaque and tartar buildup has been scaled, the hygienist or dentist brushes and polishes your teeth using a high-powered brush and special toothpaste. 

A professional flossing follows the brushing. Lastly, the team may apply a fluoride treatment to strengthen your teeth between office visits.
